The Anne Toms’ Yarmouth Gallery is a small and stylish exhibition space located at the heart of the ancient town of Yarmouth, at the westerly corner of the beautiful Isle of Wight.
Claire Sowden
Claire studied textiles at Goldsmiths College, London where she discovered the joy of creating three dimensional objects from fabric. Her influences are Islamic and Indian jewellery, medieval ritual vessels, and fairytale architecture. The outcomes are magical and romantic works in silk dupions, organzas and chiffons, layered to create sometimes misty, and sometimes intensely rich colour, heavily stitched with rayon and metallic threads. These are backed, stuffed and assembled into clocks, mirrors, boxes, jewellery and framed wall peices.
Mirrors
tiny mirrors, framed with silk and layered organza, and richly embroidered with gold threads. They are backed with gold fabric and have fixings for wall hanging. Each piece is signed on the back
