Introducing Michelle Freeman

I met Michelle Freeman at the British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate, having admired her work for some years, and am delighted to welcome her to our growing list of ceramics artists regularly showing their work at Yarmouth Gallery. A batch of her strikingly bold pots are due to arrive sometime next week.

Using a mix of hand-built, press mould and thrown techniques, Michelle inscribes lines and text into the surfaces, applying slips and oxides. Her functional work is equally valid as art, each piece making its own statement.

Michelle has worked as an assistant to Rob Bibby at Woodnewton Pottery as well as with saltglazer Christine Pedley in La Borne, France. She has made work in Tokoname, Japan and also spent time studying in Finland, returning later to make a body of work in a studio in Hameenlinna. She is now based in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
