Discovering Jesmonite

Yarmouth Gallery is pleased and excited to be showing Melanie Deegan's sculpture for the first time . We will be open all winter (closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day)

Sculptor Melanie Deegan was working in clay, learning about mould making and casting, and then moved on to plaster, lost wax bronze casting and Newplast, before she came across Jesmonite and thus began a journey of experiment with different approaches to casting and laminating. She now works predominantly with the material to create her distinctive sculptures. She uses the material effectively to capture a feeling of movement and animation in her subjects.

She says "Inspiration for my sculptures comes from various sources including photographs, paintings and real life. Being based in a rural area of South West England there is plenty of wildlife to be found locally along with farm and domestic animals." Melanie Deegan's plans for the future include a number of large sculptures suitable for outdoor locations in addition to working on some interesting commissions.
